Cricket
Cricket is similar to the sport that we know as baseball. It is played with a bat and ball between two teams of 11 players on the field. At the center of the field is 22 yard long strip called a pitch. Each team has a turn to try and hit the ball and score runs while the other team fields and tries to stop them from scoring runs. Each turn is called an inning.
The bowler (pitcher) throws the ball towards the batter who attempts to hit the ball far enough so that he can run to the other end of the pitch. If the batter successfully runs to the other end of the pitch he scores a run. The batter continues to bat until he gets out and each team continues to bat until ten batters are out. At that point the teams will switch positions; the batters will field and the fielders will bat.
Cricket came about during the 16th century and went by several names such as: club-ball, stool-ball, trap-ball, and stob-ball. The sport became so popular in England that it is the national sport and this sport can be played professionally.
